University Mental Health Day is all about bringing together the university community to make mental health a university-wide priority and create ongoing change to the future of student mental health. At the Charlie Watkins Foundation, one of our working partnerships is with the UK’s student mental health charity, Student Minds.
Now, more than ever, it is important to get the nation talking about student mental health.
There are more than 2.3 million students studying in UK universities, with many experiencing academic, social and financial pressures. This is why we are working with Student Minds to further our shared objective of improving the mental health of young people through innovative and preventative measures.
Student-led Improvement Tool
With the support of our funding, Student Minds has developed a Student-led Improvement Tool for universities.
The tool means that students will have the opportunity to offer honest feedback on the approach their university takes towards supporting the mental health of the university community. This also gives them the chance to suggest areas where improvements can be made and to put forward recommendations.
The tool will also ensure that any changes made by universities will meet the needs and priorities of the students that attend the institution, as they themselves are the experts on life as a student.
The tool was launched in January with the 41 universities who are currently members of the University Mental Health Charter programme.
